The Ministry of Human Resources discussed in a press release sent to MTI: higher education can only become more competitive by supporting excellence, quality and talent. Therefore the government adopted a system, which recognizes and supports the performance of an institution regarding the creation and protection of intellectual and economic values of the nation. The Pázmány Péter Catholic University is a representative of excellence and therefore it is worthy for the award of 'university of special importance' - goes the reasoning.

Previously the gorvernment awarded the title to the University of Debrecen, Eötvös Lóránd Tudományegyetem and the University of Szeged.
