The Library of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University is a public higher education library.
Its task is to collect and make available scientific literature supporting the teaching and research activities of the Faculty.
On the one hand, the library supports Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral training programmes of the Faculty, on the other hand, the library facilitates the research work of the faculty and students by collecting, processing and making available the relevant course material and literature. Additionally, it provides reference information and user training, as well.
The lockers, as well as the photocopiers and computers for accessing electronic databases in the foyer of the library can be found on the first floor of the building located at 30 Szentkirályi St.
One of the special features of the library is the Kings' Chamber, the walls of which were decorated in the second half of the 19th century with historical-themed murals (can be viewed by appointment).
The library maintains publication exchange relationships with domestic legal libraries and other higher education libraries.
The library is the member of the Association of the Ecclesiastical Libraries (EKE), the Law Librarians’ Section of the Association of Hungarian Librarians, and the College of Academic Library Directors.
Library holdings
The library collects contemporary domestic legal literature striving for completeness in this field.
It also aims to acquire foreign legal literature indispensable for research work.
Based on the library’s secondary scope of collection, it also collects selected material from humanities background sciences such as history, economics, political science, philosophy, ecclesiastical history, canon law which are important for the Faculty’s training and research activities.
Most of the textbooks, reference books and Hungarian scientific literature can be found on the open shelves of the reading hall. Library holdings that are stored at the different departments of the Faculty contain mostly foreign language literature. Information with regards to most of the book collection can be searched via the online catalogue.
Print periodicals subscribed to by the Faculty can be found partly on the mezzanine level of the reading hall, partly in library stacks and at the departments of the Faculty. Online periodicals, legal and other databases available to students and teachers of the Faculty can be accessed from the linked websites.
Printed copies of the theses and doctoral dissertations defended at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences are an integral part of the library's collection.
Using the Library
Our library is a public higher education library.
According to Library Regulations, using the library is free of charge, and one doesn’t need to be a student or teacher of the Faculty in order to use the library.
Library services are available to all registered users of the library.
In the reading hall of the library, one can read, make photocopies and use library computers on-site.
The library lends books from its holdings only to the Faculty's full-time teachers and staff, and, upon request, lends them documents from other libraries’ holdings via interlibrary loan.
The photocopier located in the library foyer can be used for copying and scanning in compliance with applicable copyright rules and regulations. Books and periodicals can only be taken out of the reading hall to the foyer of the library in exchange for an ID with a photo.
Library holdings are protected by a security gate and a surveillance camera, as well.
As a result of inter-institutional agreements, students of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the Pázmány Péter Catholic University can also use the services of the following libraries:
- the Library of the Hungarian Parliament (with a discounted annual library membership card),
- the Library of the Sapientia College of Theology of Religious Orders,
- the ELTE University Library and Archives, and
- the Library of the National University of Public Service (free of charge).
