U.S. Law Program

2017.12.05.

Professor Steven Smith from the University of Notre Dame, presented a lunch time lecture addressing some issues of the U.S. criminal justice system. Professor Smith taught a three-week criminal law course in the framework of Pázmány's U.S. Law Program. Participants of the lunch time lecture heard about the over-criminalization at both federal and state level, the enormous and largely uncontrolled prosecutorial power, and the inefficiency of long jail sentences. He explained his views about capital punishment, wrongful convictions and the maltreatment of drug criminals through the lenses of a Catholic lawyer, teaching at one of the leading Catholic U.S. law school.
