Call for Application – Negotiation Moot EU Crisis: Migrants or Refugees

2015.10.15.
Are you fed up with the inability of European decision-makers to resolve the migrant crisis? Do you think you could do better? Would you like to try your diplomatic and negotiation skills?

Every year, the Negotiation Moot Association organizes an international EU decision making and negotiation simulation game. This year, the task is to come up with a European answer to the migrant refugee crisis. During the event, teams will represent the national interest of one particular EU member state each, with participants acting and speaking like Government ministers having to come together to formulate their positions in a significant EU policy area. Throughout the negotiation their main goal will be to find a compromise on managing the situation while defending their own national interest.

The entire game is composed of a two-day simulation event preceded by an online preparatory phase.

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the functioning of the Council of the European Union and its place within the decision-making processes of the European Union and will obtain a better understanding of the difficulties and complexity of Member State politics and consensus building in the diplomatic setting of the Council.

EU experts and MEPs in the jury will evaluate team performance and the best players will be awarded with special prizes, including a study trip to Brussels.

Application Deadline: 22 October
Simulation: 28 November, Budapest
Registration fee: 30 EUR
(The fee includes the accommodation price as well)
